B.E.: University of Madras 1964. MBA: University of Hawaii 1971. A-b-D, Ph.D Programme: 1977. Parts of the work for MBA degree were done at Columbia University and University of Minnesota under the East West Center exchange program of the United States Educational Foundation of India after successfully completing the four semesters at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad.
Teaching / Educational Administration
Continuously involved in the curriculum development / review process both at IIM, Bangalore as well as at Bharathiar University. Ramakrishnan continues to experiment and innovate in the field of management education, currently focusing on critical thinking and the use of e-learning.
He is a much in demand resource person for programs on case method of teaching and other in-service programs for young teachers, not only in management subjects, but also on topics such as “Effective use of education technology”, “Education and Globalisation”, “Issues in Accreditation” etc.
Research and Consultancy
Ramakrishnan has extensive research and consultation experience, largely in the area of management of public systems, particularly in the education sector. He has completed several research studies, especially for evaluating social intervention programmes such as the Total Literacy Campaign, commissioned by the national and state agencies. He is associated with several State and National agencies engaged in policy formulation as well as implementation of education initiatives.
Industry
He began his career in the sales, marketing and finance areas of Esso Eastern Inc. (Hindusthan Petroleum, after nationalization), for a little more than five years and is a Consultant to private as well as public sector enterprises.
Ramakrishnan has published several articles both in academic journals and in the popular press. He has contributed chapters to books published by Croom-Helm, Sage etc. Some research reports have been extensively reproduced by agencies such as UNICEF for circulation among interest groups.
